My studio
This is the place where ideas and challenges are born. The place where I take time out to think after every wave of inspiration, so that I can work effectively and in comfort. While furniture and other objects may be moved around, only the paintbrushes stay in the designated spot they return to every time I carefully wash them.
I have set up my improvised studio in my living room and on part of my terrace. The light provided by the terrace, which is exposed to the setting sun, allows me to benefit from natural light all year round, given that there are only two seasons in the Antilles; Lent and Hivernage, one the dry season and the other the rainy season. The days of Lent are longer than those of Hivernage, but the light remains beautiful the whole year round. On the terrace, my gestures tend to be more spontaneous with the sprays and projections of paint, and I am also able to observe the patterns the sunshine makes on the yellow poinciana hedge (Dwarf Flamboyant) that borders the ravine, as well as on the foliage of the coconut palms. And most of all there is the presence of two breadfruit trees, whose dark-green, multi-lobed leaves I hear as they fall. From my window, I see a carpet of leaves with shades resembling those of old leather, shapes and movements on the ground that inspire me, and in my studio I hang leaves so I can draw and paint them.
By leaving my studio every day to go out for a walk, I ensure that I remain connected to my homeland, its light, its humid climate, its rapid-growing flora whose sap I feel pulsing within my being, and everything I am linked to, like an umbilical cord.
Walking also allows me to pick up anything on the ground that catches my attention, plant debris but also objects left by people, that I then integrate into my painting, within the colour, thereby imbuing them with new life.

The Mille Reflets studio
From 1999 to 2018, I gave graphic art and oil painting lessons in a private studio I founded, which was called Mille Reflets from 2004 onwards. This was where I taught art to people of all ages and levels of ability and experience, some for recreation or beginners’ courses, but others seeking to take entrance exams for courses requiring an artistic dimension, as the publications by students on the Mille Reflets Facebook page show. Many of my students went on to gain qualifications from art schools Les Terrasses de Didier
